Too early or too crazy? "Xbox 3" is in the works as we speak

I remember after the Gamecube came out Nintendo was questioned about when they were planning on developing their next system. The answer they gave was something along the lines of "development has already begun, I don't know where people get the idea that we stop thinking about the future."

The moral of the story is, gaming companies like Nintendo, or in this case Microsoft, are always thinking about and developing future consoles. That doesn't mean they're ignoring the current ones.

If gaming giants did not keep pushing the technology, we would all e happy playing 2600 games. Game developer and companies are always looking for better was to use current technology. Just because one system has launched does not mean the company stops growing or looking to expand.

If you can't see why they would do that, I don't think it is worth the time explaining it to you.

WHAT THE....!! If they're really trying to make a xbox 3, then I have to go with the 'crazy thinking' side of it all. Isn't this really a bit too much? I mean, why would you bother, wouldn't you wait until there is more competion first? As far as I know, the PS3 is the last console sony will make. Does this mean the Microsoft will really rise up above all others? Or will there be someone else to take the challenge in being the ultimate in computer tehcnology? This has got me thinking alot about it all now. What about all of you?

Well the instant one rolls out the door they will be thinking "what's next?" But honestly I wish they would get the 360 in a nice stable state first ;-)
My first one died after 3 months, and Im about to open the seccond one. Please god let it live a long life! It has only been about a year so the 360 has at least 3 - 4 more years left in it's cycle. Honestly I wish they could make it last for 8 years, but you know they are hungry for money so that's not going to happen. :(

It's just common sense to at least have some ideas for the next gaming console. Microsoft have had a nice headstart with the 360, they're dominating, and although it's too early for the next Xbox, it's a good move to be ahead on it. I think Sony are in big trouble, personally.

With all this competition, us gamers can only benefit. Just means that we get better entertainment and pricing. ^_^

Not necessarily. If the stakes are higher (which they are) well established companies may opt to stick with the tried and true franchises instead of taking risks and getting creative with games. As well, smaller game companies that have some great ideas may be ignored and overlooked in the face of a well funded mass media. In addition to that oversaturation of consoles and games could become a problem if there are too many companies competing in the same market. More competition could simply mean more big companies playing it safe, and potentially good smaller companies not playing at all.

Good point. Nice to have you back BTW.

Ya, I had four wisdom teeth pulled out on Monday, so I took the whole week off from work and am currently lounging around at my parent's house where I receive free room, free board, and free internet. :D

Wow........I think they should wait for some newer technology to come out before they start making a whole new system......

I guess since they have the money, they cant really lose.

theyre creating the new technology.

This isn't unsual, to begin development so fast.

However, Microsoft's agenda is to push competitors out the gate with money. And that's it.

They shortened the last generation's life span without adding anything of significance and they'll likely be doing it again. Screw their tactics.

They added the first successful centralized online service for consoles, which is the reason many prefer the Xbox/360 over the competition.

I guess 10-20% of people who play games is "many".

Maybe, just maybe you're right.

I think microsoft has enough money to last a life time. Now there comming up with a new counsel already?! when they just came out with the xbox 360 just this past thanksgiving or so. I think there jumping the gun a little. Atleast wait until the xbox 360 is about two to three years in production.

I meant that, XBL is one of the main reasons people who choose Microsoft over Nintendo or Sony do choose MS over them.

Oh.

So when you said this :

You didn't really mean what you said, but something else entirely? Well, I suppose you might be right if you reword it.

Indeed. Sony and Nintendo just wanted to go for a picnic on a sunny afternoon where they could eat gumdrops and sugar cookies all day long. It wasn't until big bad Microsoft showed up that the console market became a competition...

They shortened the last generation's life span without adding anything of significance and they'll likely be doing it again. Screw their tactics.

Indeed. Sony and Nintendo had agreed upon a minimum lifespan per system, and all was harmonious and calm in the console market. It wasn't until big bad Microsoft showed up that game companies realized their might be an edge in getting the jump on the competition...

Besides, if you think it's too soon for a console, don't buy it. I don't know about anyone else but I'm certainly enjoying the $20 and $30 price tags on PS2/Xbox/GC games. Hell, the PS2 still has plenty of games coming out for it (even some big name titles such as God of War 2), and the Xbox does see a lot of toned down versions of 360 games (all the 07 sports games, NFS: Carbon, Ghost Recon, etc.). The only console that has completely shut down since new consoles have been launched has been the GC (save Zelda). I'm not sure Microsoft's tactics are really the cause of your ill temperment.
