Trophies... do they influence your gaming purchase decisions?

With the advent of achievements and trophies... it seems more and more people go for games that have these features.

I find myself looking at the following list before I make game decisions:

I don't play games just for trophies... but I like to buy games that have them. I'm not even sure why... because once I start playing, my focus isn't on trophies. My trophy count is small at best. But I still look to see if they have them. NOW... if a game was awesome but didn't have trophies, I would still buy it.

Doesn't matter to me. I just want a great game that's worth my money. My Gamer Score is pretty low too. If a game is really good then I'll try to get all the achievements but it doesn't influence my purchases one bit. The last thing I think about is what type of achievements a game has.

Trophies/acheivements are cool, but do not make or break the deal for buying a game.

I did, however, greatly enjoy certain Left 4 Dead acheivements, particularly Crownd, Barf Bagged, and All 4 Dead. Those achievements took some time to get, and integrate well with the gameplay goals in general.

I can't help but say I love to get trophies. I always feel accomplished and it's what gets me my replay value in. I will get a game without trophies on it but likely, I won't go back to it as often a game with trophies.

Yeah, same here.

Probably the exception is Heavenly Sword. I love that game even though it doesn't have Trophies.

QFT.

not at all.... don't care about trophies or achievements, if it doesn't reward me properly it is not worth replaying

But, do you go back to games where you gotten all the trophies you wanted? What's the replay value afterwards for these games?

There's always a different reason for replay value for different games. Perhaps for the heck of it or another reason. Depends on what game we're talking about.

Fair enough, but in general do you still go back to these games for whatever reason even after obtaining trophies? Or do they normally just sit on your shelf? Do you sell or trade any in afterwards?

I sold Modern Warfare 2 because the task of just playing multiplayer seemed tedious at times. If I don't end up going back at the game, I'll trade it in towards something else. If I like the game enough to play more, then good. But if I have to have a captivated interest in it and a want to invest time into it. Normally though, they would get traded in if not played again in three weeks.

It affects my purchase on games I'm not sure on. Average games if you will. If it's a low price point and has trophies, I'll most likely buy it. If anything, I'll buy it used and return it within the week, while retaining the trophies. But if it's a great game or coming from a great franchise of games, I'll pick it up regardless of trophy support. Plus, there's always hope that some games without trophies will get patched with trophies, since that's happening a lot now.

:lol for some I just give up... seriously... some are just impossible to earn.

I don't know why... if I find a $10 PS3 game... I double check the http://www.ps3trophies.org/games/retail
websites. If the game has trophies... it's generally a sure sale. Still... I don't have may trophies.

I don't buy full priced games any more except a handful. Even $30 is too much IMO as of late... but I will go for a $10-20 game :)

I could care less about trophies or achievements. I'm still not convinced my PSN ID/Gamertag is a "persistent" console presence for me, because a lot of my "gaming" is done on other people's systems, and its not worth constantly retrieving gamerscores and such from one to the other. On top of that, they just don't matter to me. I only just recently found out I could "sync" my trophies to a server somewhere, not just on my hard drive. I had no idea what purpose this served until someone told me it would save my trophies in case my system crashed. Really? So what? If my system crashed trophies would be the last thing on my mind. Maybe there are other reasons why this takes place, but again, general apathy towards the whole idea makes me not care.

Although I will say that the achievements in Civilization Revolution were something that kept me playing the game. It provided a reason to try out every nation and also to try different play styles I normally wouldn't. But Civ Rev is a unique console game experience, one that craves extra reasons to keep playing because its so friggin fun to begin with. If the game itself gave some sort of in game reward or recognition for such feats that would be just as well. The lack of trophies on the PS3 version of the game greatly diminishes its value.
