Universal Love of Controllers

Just wondering if anybody else out there buys up as many different ones as they can? My bro, Mrs and a couple of friends have recently commented on my ever growing and very often ponitless controller collection.

I have found some unlikely gems on the way, but am often greeted with a waste of plastic.

Have any of you come across some unexpectedly great controllers over the years?

The Namco JogCon was a surprise for me. After a little while it became fairly nice to use, but its D-Pad use is where it shines for me. Its handles make it much nicer to hold and the directional buttons walk all over the original PSX controllers. For any non-analog Racer this is my go to pad. I use it on the Saturn, PSX, Xbox, PC with convertors and love it to bits.

Not really tried it with any other genre except for fighters, where it fails epically!!

I've only been burned by third part controllers. More than once, actually. :lol

I wish I'd have stocked up on N64 controllers though. Good joysticks are hard to come by... no pun intended.

Namco JogCon? Is that the one that was bundled with Ridge Racer 4?

Collecting controllers is definitely not the norm. And just like Stealth, have been burned by 3rd party controllers. So I mainly stick with 1st party controllers. I have in the past purchased cheap ones for multiplayer since I didn't really care about what controllers my friends used. If they wanted a 1st party controller, they had to bring their own.

One 3rd part controller that I thought was decent is the recent CoD controllers from Mad Catz. They have the L3 an R3 buttons on the back so you don't have to push the sticks in. It takes a while to get used to but helps quite a bit in first-person shooters. I also like the SFIV TE fighting sticks. Well made and help a lot with 2D fighters.

Yep, that's one. Weird looking thing with a force feedback wheel in the middle of it. Namco used to really go at it in the 90's didn't they lol

Never tried the Mad Catz for CoD. I like the idea of L3 & R3 on the back, as it was always a nuisance on the sticks. I must track it down :-)

Mad Catz have put out some pretty good stuff as of late, the SFIV sticks are good, I agree, as are the SFIV Pads.

yeh, 1st party very often come out tops. You'd think the competition would have stepped their game up by now. ::)

Really? That's friggin hilarious.

Got the NeoGeo Stick 2 for the PS3 today, it is luuuurvely :-)

My eye is on a Resident Evil pad for the PS1 atm. Convinced myself I will go through both discs of RE2 if I get it...

You've never gone through RE2?! Do it!!

That reminds me, I would like to pick up the RE4 chainsaw GC controller. Very hard to find though.

The one I was watching on eBay seems to have disappeared and the only one I can see is £39.99, so it will be staying there for a little while metinks :(

I have gone through Resident Evil 2 with Leon, just not Claire. I'm just giving myself a reason to buy the pad more than anything. :)

That RE4 Chainsaw pad is really cool but so completely pointless, and that makes me love it even more, but I would love to have been a fly on the wall at the product development meeting where they all thought it was a good idea. :lol

I honestly don't remember it, I randomly came across it maybe a month or so ago and really liked the look of it.
It does look like it would be really good for Resi games. Hopefully, it will also work on the PS2 and with Code Veroinca :-)

It's definitely a novelty. More for placing on your shelf.

Definitely.

Just managed to grab one of them Resident Evil Pads on eBay for a tenner inc P&P. Sadly, its a loose one, but it beats paying £40 for a boxed one.

So, it looks as if I will be going through both discs of Resident Evil 2 after all. Woohoo :)

Well, the Resident Evil pad arrived. :D

Despite the fact it reeked of cigar smoke and was pretty dirty it is a really good pad. Sadly, it only works on the PS1 Resi games, which is a pity as I was really looking forward to playing Code Veronica with it. I tried using it on the Dreamcast with a PS2 pad convertor and it works no problems, but sadly the button configuration is awkward and no variation alters this. :(

Soon as I'm done with a couple other games I'm gonna go through RE2 with Claire.

Thinking of getting the Directors cut of the first game, but was it that much different from the original? If not, i'll not bother.

The only differences were new costumes and different placement of certain puzzle pieces and weapons. It was supposed to have the uncut intro where you see Chris walking and then getting killed, but Capcom wussed out and left the original.
