Violent Video games cause aggressive behavior

If an eight year old is playing GTA, I think the first thing that needs correction is the parenting skills.

If you show a kid who hasn't been conditioned to know that it's not really a good thing to do violent stuff, violent stuff, he'll think it's good. Their rated mature and while that doesn't mean you should have to be an adult to play it(take me for example) it means you shouldn't give it to kids who don't know any better. Blame the parents not the games.

Well, Fire keeps saying "Everyone calls me a n00b! I dont want to be a n00b anymore!" and I said "Playing these games will lead you down the path of the hardcore.

*GTA and GOW comes from beam of light in the sky*

Why, thank you for prooving my point GM. I teach her well. :) Anyone have any suggestions for her?

Ok, ok, I get what you are saying, Mrs. Halo queen :lol

Jk. I know as well as you do that without the blood that game would be rated T.

I'm not sure if it would be society but have you considered Hollywood with movies that have pressured these ideas on all of us and even children?

I don't think saying Hollywood "pressures" society into glorifying these lifestyles is accurate. Rather I would argue that violence in all forms of art, movies, videogames, painting, etc., is a reflection of our society, and not the other way around.

Ultimately this debate breaks down into "does art reflect life, or does life reflect art?" There is no definite answer, but looking at our North American culture it seems acts of violence and barbarism (see: empiricism) have also been rewarded, even if they were publicly condemned. It doesn't seem fair to say that movies and videogames are "pressuring" society into glorifying aggressive behavior when that sort of behavior existed and was praised long before either medium existed. Also, if people didn't like seeing it, they wouldn't pay money for it. Hollywood especially gives people what they want. If nobody was willing to pay money to see violent films, hollywood would not be making them.

I think every generation of people get more and more stupid, till they can no longer tell from fantasy and reality

Dumb ass kids can't tell the difference at all. I played the first Mortal Kombat when I was only 9 years old, never felt like ripping anyone's heart out ala Kano's signature fatality.

Kids who don't know any better should be banned from playing video games! >:(

The problem is, it's impossible to judge which kids don't know any better, without a rather lengthy mental evaluation. I's just not possible to do that to every kid who wants to buy a game, so all kids must be stopped from buying M rated games, to ensure the ones who don't know any better can't get their hands on the game.

Plus, you may not go rip out someone's heart, but like any media they will effect, and influence you.
