I thought he was just offering to buy it, like, letting them know he's interested in them. I'd take it as a compliment if I was so high up on Bill Gates' wish list.

Not really. I'd get that impression from reading this thread, but reading the actual article everything was very formal and neatly put. Bill Gates said he wanted to buy Nintendo, Nintendo said they had no reason to sell. There was no rudeness at all. Gates even said he really liked Nintendo and he's wanted to buy them for a long time, how is that rude or stupid?
