For me it was mom and dad.
When I was around 13 yo,every Saturday they would go the mall for groceries leaving my brother and I time to go into the arcade.I was hooked,I frequented that place every day until I got my first home console, that being the "Coleco Vision" with "Smurf" as my first game.

How about you?

Godspeed.

I'm not too sure where to pinpoint my start. Yet there's three possibilities.

1) My father always encouraged us to always accept new technology in any form.
2) My brother loved video games, so monkey see, monkey do.
3) The death of one of my oldest friends in 1993, Eric. He was the person who introduced me to the world of Nintendo. He was the first kid on the block to own a Nintendo GameBoy in 1990 and he was the first guy I knew who had the very first issue of Nintendo Power of 1988 along with being a member of the Nintendo Fan Club. We played Super Mario 2, Duck Hunt, and Mike Tyson's Punch-Out during that Christmas season.

My first exposure to games was watching my Dad and his friends playing Atari. I was extremely young at the time, maybe 4-5 years old. But what really hooked me was when we got an NES for Christmas. I will never forget watching my oldest sister beat Super Mario. Some of the first games I played were, Mario, Duck Hunt, Tetris, and TMNT. Can't believe I've been a gamer for 20 years now!

I got brought into games when i was 3, when me and my dad were living with my Aunt and Uncle (and cousins) in their Unit. We had a SNES, and it was glorious. No idea who bought it, why and when... to this day it hasn't stopped. The gamer runs through me veins!

My aunt gave my mother an NES when I was little (like, 2 or 3 years old I think). She had Super Mario Bros./Duck Hunt and Super Mario Bros. 3 with it. My mother taught me how to play SMB and I've loved it ever since. You can imagine how amazed I was when I played Super Mario Bros. 3 afterward. That particular aunt is my hero.

NHL 93. Super Mario Bros. 3 was the first game I ever played, and I played it quite a bit, but NHL 93 is what turned me from a casual gamer into a "just one more game" gamer. Since then I've always found playing games a little more seriously to be rewarding.

NHL 93, was that on Genesis? I remember a buddy of mine had a Hockey game for Genesis and it was insanely addicting!

My parents. They owned SNES and PS1, my first consoles. I remember playing Super Mario World and Tomb Raider with my Dad. Sadly, I miss these memories so much. It kinda hurts remembering them... =_= Still, happy times.

Oh yes sir, Sega Genesis was the king of sports games. They had one of the first console Madden games and really help drive the trend in North America.

I guess my first encounter was with SEGA, though my parents bought me and my brother an SNES when I was in elementary school. I remeber watching my dad beat Mario, while I always played Yoshi's Cookie. Actually I think that was the first game I beat. That was one challenging game back in elementary school. I a;lso remeber playing with my dad in beating the mario/yoshi game using the Nintendo superscope device.

Odd.

Oh you bet it was. It was the reason I bought a Sega Genesis instead of a Super Nintendo. It also made the Sega Genesis the first console I ever bought. And thus began the tradition of saving up all my allowances, sacrificing everything, everything, for the pursuit of games and further consoles.
