What kind of PS3 do you have? Which model?

MegaDrive20XX

Segatron Genesis... call me the wizard.
Everybody has a different type of PS3 these days, sometimes I wish it wasn't like this.

I'll start.

I currently have the 160GB Model that came with Uncharted: Drake's Fortune. Sure it doesn't have BC, it loves certain PS1 titles, but the HD space was totally worth it!

i really wanted that version but i had to go with the 80GB model from target that came with 2 free blu ray's of my choice :).

isn't the only ps3 with BC the 40GB?

Hi and welcome Meecrob. The 40GB never had BC.

Only four models to be known to have BC were: 20GB, 60GB, 80GB with Motorstorm, and the 80GB with MGS4.

Are any of those even still available retail or has Sony dropped their support for the Playstation and Playstation 2 libraries on the current retail PS3s?

They are long gone, since Sony still sees profit in the PS2.

Now as for the SATA drives, yes they do use them and are very easy to install.

I wonder if the compatability will be reintroduced with a remodel of the ps3 at the end of the ps2 product life.

I have the 60GB version. From what I understand, the 40 and 60 Gig versions are the only versions to have the Hardware chips in the (Ie no software backwards compatibility, but the actual chips in the ps3.). The 80 Gig started the software emulation.

I know my 60 Gig has ps1 and ps2 hardware on board. I do not believe the hardware onboard versions have any backwards compatibility issues. Its like having Playstation 1 and 2 systems built into the Playstation 3. Correct me if I am wrong.

This is why I bought the 60 Gig as it was being phased out.
