Hi Members!

I was watching a doc on marine animals earlier, and it got me to thinking.

In your opinion, why do you think God created animals. Most will say it's for food, and I think they're correct in part, but there are far too many species of animals to just be for food in my opinion. My guess is that He created most of them to help keep the Earth and it's many features running like a well oiled machine,so to speak. When certain breeds become extinct,it does affect the system in some ways, however little.

I understand the "Book Of Genesis" touches on the subject(the link is below.)but I'm very interested to know how you esteemed members feel on this issue.

I'm going to step away from all my biological study, since this is a religious based thread, and put what I think is a well reasoned explanation.

God, aware that the world requires stability in order to function as a whole, created animals that could work in their own designed ways to keep the ecosystem in balance.

If I was religious, that's exactly the answer I would give as well. And I also think certain animals provide a bit of color to nature such as those really exotic birds. They are like living art, so to speak :)

Different species fill different environmental niches.

For example, penguins are perfectly suited to hunt marine areas, but raise their young on land to avoid sea predators, even though they are morphologically similar to other birds.

Certain bacteria fill niches that few other organisms can survive. Thermophiles are able to survive off nutrients in hot springs and have little competition for those nutrients because of the high temperatures.

There are several great books on how different organisms fill these different environments and thrive.

Crazy all the new species they are discovering in the Artic Ocean Depths and areas like that. They finally have the technology to dive deeper and found a significant number of life greater than previously estimated in the Ocean Depths.

I don't know why, but I took interest after reading a scholarly journal on Deep Sea life in the Artics. Pretty cool.

Hi guys,

I'm surprised that it took me this long to realize this.I've noticed that with the number of religious threads I post, that it appears as if I'm assuming that myself and other members share the belief in one "Ultimate Creator".For this I must apologize for "Just Assuming" that other people did as well, and that's not fair of me to do so,everyone has their right to believe,or not believe and carry out these beliefs if any,in anyway he or she sees fit.

Please forgive my thought process on this one.

God Bless,
