Windows Vista

Eventually switching to vista is not going to be an option. But really "Switching" isn't always an option. If you bought your computer from a manufacturer, you really should stick to the OS your computer came with.

I know I won't be switching.

I believe Dell offers a way to upgrade to Vista, so it shouldn't be a problem.

Why would you not want to upgrade to the superior OS if your computer can handle it?

I spent all this time setting up my computer the way I like it, windows XP sp2 has been out longer, I like XP sp2. It does everything I wish for it to do.

I own a Neogeo AES.
I own a Genesis.
I bought my Apple G5 right BEFORE the release the intels because I didn't want an intel based mac.

Obviously, new and improved is not my cup of tea.

Well, if MS improves gaming on PC with the Games for Windows initiative, then it will be worth upgrading.

I haven't read much, but working at Best Buy....I do know some things. With every computer purchased, the customer gets a free Vista upgrade. They send the rebate in, in January and Microsoft sends them their copy of Vista a few days later. At least through Best Buy, Vista will be available in January.

I have to agree. But can't we all agree that windows XP-->vista is nowhere near the priority switch that windows 98/milliumium--->xp was?

I did sign up to test the beta a while back, but deleted it because the driver for my belkin wireless adapter wasn't recognised :'( dunno if it would work in the full version

Vista is out & available.

Killer app = Microsoft Office suite as always, along with Media player ( ::))

I don't plan on getting vista unless I were to get a new PC. I am pretty sure it would kill my 850 mhz processor and 512 of RAM. However, I am interested in the student edition of Office. Apparently OneNote is a new Office program for consolodating research notes... THAT is something in which I am greatly interested!

I never got to test that beta...shame. Anyhow, I don't plan on getting Vista for quite some time, even though my rig will be more than capable of handling the top Vista version {which I won't buy anyways}. When I do get Vista, I'll just stick with the Home version, as I'm sure most users will.

The only thing that's keeping me from getting Vista is the lack of sound card support. MS is making their sound entirely software base, so regular sound cards are pointless.

Im going to wait until the next Service Pack comes out. Let them work out some of the kinks first.
sound like the best of ideas :), I think that I will keep XP until I know my wireless adapter will work with Vista :)

well im thinking about getting my new pc soon, so it will obv. come with Vista on it. From what I've read it sounds really cool.

One question. Whats the difference between the 32 and 64 bit thing? I keep hearing about it but I wasnt sure what its for.

It has to do with two things really.

1. The amount of memory addressable by the processor.
2. The amount of bits the processor can add, subtract, multiply, etc, in one operation.

(if your computer has a 64 bit processor you need 64 bit windows so you can run in 64 bit mode.

Windows Vista is a complete waste of money. I would not buy it yet. I'd wait for all the little tweaks to be fixed before buying it.
