Xbox 360 Price Cut this Fall/Holiday

Microsoft insider hints at substantial price drop for the Xbox 360 right around the launch of Sony's PlayStation 3.

"Microsoft would have the option of slashing the price of its console, just as rivals come out with their first consoles."
According to online site Britxbox, "A source close to Microsoft has revealed that the Xbox 360 hardware team are busy redesigning the chips supplied by ATI and IBM to cut costs and allow a price drop to coincide with the release of Sony's Playstation 3."

"If they hit their targets, Microsoft would be able to cut the costs of its console in the autumn of 2006" said the Microsoft source. "Microsoft would have the option of slashing the price of its console, just as rivals come out with their first consoles."

Currently the Xbox 360 is being sold for $299 and $399. The PlayStation 3 is expected to sell for $499 and $599 at its release on November 17.
 
Would be cool if they knock a $100.00 off to compete with the Wii and PS3. $199.99 for the Core and $299.99 for the PRemium System would definitely sell more than the PS3 and the Core would be less than the Wii.
 
that would be an interesting move... $100 off... that seems like way too much off at once... that doesn't give them a lot of room to work in the future.

I could see $250 and $350... but $200 and 300 would be an insane drop.

The Wii is supposed to come out $200-250... but I am guessing $200.

still... I wonder if the move will hurt the Ps3.

Didnt the first xbox drop from like $399 to $299 in a flash? I thought i remembered that, but i may be wrong. That would be nice though.........thats kinda why i havent bought one yet.
 
I thnk it'd be a smart move for microsoft, and I agree with bv $100 drop already seems like alot! I'm interested to see how this turns out!
 
Well with my ever growing reservations about the PS3 release price I may end up taking the Xbox 360 up on their offer if it were to go down to $199-$299. Yes that would be a severe drop in a very short amount of time but you know they want to make their console as attractive as possible and stick it to Sony as much as possible.

I shall see. I am itching to play RR6 and DOA4. :D

Yeah, I saw that also. I just still think it may happen and Microsoft does not want to say anything yet to keep potential buyers now from waiting.
 
Yeah I'm gettin' antsy myself. I'm considering waiting on the PS3 until sometime next year and jumping on the 360 but if there 'may' be a possible price cut by the end of the year I might want to wait. I'm really itching to play Ridge Racer 6. :D
 
Well, now they are talking about add-ins for the $399.99 Premium System as of August 1st. PGR3 Game, 3 Month XBL Gold Membership, and 1250 Marketplace Points.
 
Im going to my friends house tonight and he has a 360. This will be the first real chance I have to play with it.
 
So has anyone heard anything about the rumor that the 360 would get a free game starting today?/??

If they do that, I might just get one myself.

I know it won't get much play though...
