January 7, 2005 - Nintendo in Japan today announced that it has teamed up with Konami Entertainment to develop Dance Dance Revolution with Mario, a GameCube-specific version of Konami's popular dance games featuring characters from the Mushroom Kingdom.

Like in Konami's Dance Dance Revolution games, players dance atop a mat, which acts as a controller for the on-screen title. The objective is to stay with the rhythym of the music, literally dancing to on-screen cues.
Very few details about the game have been released, but Nintendo and Konami did announce that it will use a new dance mat controller. In Japan, the mat will be included with the game. The title will also feature a wide assortment of dance-related mini-games.

The game will be on display at the World Hobby Fair 2005, which begins in about two weeks. A Japanese release is expected this Summer.

I hope they use more than just Nintendo tracks. Some would be nice and all, but most people like the Techno-Rave mixes in there.

Oh ya, this is gonna help Nintendo's kiddy image a lot...  ::)

I know you mean that in a bad way but actually IMO it will help Nintendo more than it will hurt them.

DDR is as mainstream as it gets. I've worked in video game retail for almost 3 years now, and I can say for certain that people have bought PS2s just for DDR. And DDR games at arcades always attract crowds. Always. The same goes for the Konami booth at E3. And Mario, well....he's pretty well-known too. Parents know who Mario is.

So this game, it's been in development long enough that it's already ready for display at the World Hobby Fair in about two weeks, and for release in Japan sometime this summer. That means that it will most likely be at E3 as well. It wouldn't even have to have Mario in it to attract crowds at E3, but I think that will draw even more attention than normal. People will be like, "wtf?? Mario in a DDR game?? I have to see this for myself." And then they'll play. And then it will get coverage in all the magazines and on message boards and blogs and stuff. With the right exposure...it could be huge. "Mommy, I want that DDR. It has Mario in it!"

Check out my thoughts on the subject. http://www.livejournal.com/community/girl_gamers/1142446.html

Also, just think of it this way:

Face it, Mario's been milked for years. People are just now complaining about it because they need something to complain about. God forbid this game actually be fun or *shock* foster Nintendo/Konami relations, which have been sour for years. As for me, if the game has Nintendo remixes and has a dance pad, I'm sold.

Konami makes some great games. Wouldn't it be nice if them being successful and making a lot of money with Mario DDR on the Gamecube led to say, oh, a Castlevania for the GC?

I'm thinking that Link's actually a DDR freak, and is obsessed with the game (in a good way). He has posted other places, I believe, saying that he likes DDR.

thats pretty cool :)

I know I have stated this story many times... some people here were playing DDR all the time in our arcade.... and they ended up losing 40-60 pounds I believe.
