But Kaz, you're comparing two completely different things. Speeding can lead to injury or death. Buying a rated M game can lead to child being confused and the parents properly talk about it. My parents did well by me when I got my first rated M game. I've seen shock sites. The world wasn't meant to be a sheltered place. They'll see it someday, just unfortunately sooner. Remember, parental controls!

I used speeding as an example of how the laws are too lax.People wouldn't take speeding as lightly if the penalties were stiffer,nor would a store sell a mature game to a minor if the consequences were more severe.It's pretty damn hard for a parent to carry the weight of society's negligence.It's not fair to them.they are human.
 
Parents probably know exactly what they're getting themselves into when they have children. They're humans but they also have to take responsiblity someway or another.

It's not society's responsibility to take care of matters that should be dealt with by parents.

i grew up in a semi fatherless household (dad left when i was 4 because...) and my father was abusive....

i have played violent video games (GTA 3 when i was in the 8th grade) and i havent killed anyone....

yet. :lol oh :-X.... :D

just kidding, i have....wait :-X :-X :-X ::D

more laws = more govt control.

more govt control = less freedom.

funny how the arguments for this and the arguments for gun rights seem to parallel.
 
All Political... parental... and other issues aside. I will say... it is not good for kids to play games too mature for them. Of course, this also depends on the maturity of the child. However, kids are influenced much more than adults... and I personally think kids should be limited (BY THEIR PARENTS).

I do not agree in more government control in these areas. Parents need to control. We all know certain parents won't control their kids as much. Other factors play into the negative influence... but I do think violent games influence kids more than adults and could have a possibility of negative reactions in some kids. I do not believe all kids are affected like this... but we only need a handful to make a government case against the gaming industry.

For the record, I think Government should keep their paws off gun control as well.

I do, however, recall Ben Franklin's writing saying something along the lines of, "he who would give up freedom for safety deserves neither."

The laws are already plenty strict if anything they to far I just got carded acouple weeks ago, keep in mind I'm 29 I haven't gotten carded in years for buying booze but still do everytime I buy an M-rated game. The problem is the parents, when I was gamestop a few weeks back and the clerk even asked the kid's mom who was ahead of me in line if she was sure she wanted him to have M-rated game she still bought for him.
