Re: The New Zelda for Cube....update...

If it's already done, why aren't they releasing more information on it??? Trailers, screenshots, anything. Throw us a bone here, Nintendo.

I swear, why do they think they have to be so secretive? They're not going to build any hype that way. They should look to MS and follow the example they set with Halo 2's impressive hype. Halo 2 was everywhere and look how well it sold on the first day.

Re: The New Zelda for Cube....update...

They might be saving it up for E3. Keeping in mind, however, that Zelda was the big E3 news last year, the Revolution should be the big news this year. If anything their E3 show should overshadow the new Zelda and instead bring up a couple more surprises.

So, if they are saving up a media blowout, they probably shouldn't. I can only hope Nintendo's got some kind of inside knowledge on exactly how to promote the new Zelda, but something tells me that they should listen to Mai.

Re: The New Zelda for Cube....update...

That's bull, it's already done but it won't be out in Japan entil the end of they year? And that means it will be over a year till we get it. Know what that means? It's not going to be on the Cube.

thats what I was thinking. But the new system does need a great launch title.

Re: The New Zelda for Cube....update...

:P They don't need a new system as much as they need some more "must have" games for the Cube.

Mai, you're totally right saying they should follow Microsoft's example.

Who cares about E3, games get released then, but the majority of their sales and media hype don't come from E3. They're not approaching this in a very business-like manner.

Re: The New Zelda for Cube....update...

Ok, apparently the whole Zelda being finished thing was the result of bad translating. It is, in fact, NOT FINISHED YET. So here's the whole interview, complete with better translation.

February 18, 2005 - In an interview with the French publication Liberation, Nintendo producer Eiji Aonuma commented on the next installment in the series for GameCube, and confirmed that a DS Zelda title is underway.

Aonuma, who was the level designer for The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and directed the follow-up Majora's Mask, is currently overseeing the new GameCube Legend of Zelda. "I'm two-hundred percent involved in its development," he told the publication.
Shigeru Miyamoto's right-hand man was slim on details about the game. "The next episode in the Zelda series for GameCube is already coming, but I can't say absolutely anything about it," he explained. "You know the deal -- even the title and theme are still secret."

However, he did confirm two never-before-known facts about the project. "The next grand Zelda game, which follows chronologically after the Wind Waker, will be released at the end of 2005 in Japan," Aonuma revealed. The late 2005 release date in Japan would indicate that a simultaneous launch in the US could be planned.

Quizzed for more specifics on the game, Aonuma held firm, but did say: "I can reveal one lone secret: it'll be very, very beautiful."

Aonuma also spoke on a Legend of Zelda title for Nintendo DS. "There's no doubt about a Zelda game for the DS," he said. "In fact, know that our ideas for Four Swords have greatly contributed to the concept behind the DS."

The producer also noted that his work on the GBA-based Four Swords influenced the direction of the DS. "The gameplay ideas we came up with for Four Swords provided examples on what kind of games would be possible on the Nintendo DS and what kind of advantages the double-screen would enable. It was all theoretical, but today we realize it's a pity -- a real shame -- that we haven't created a demonstration of a real, great Zelda game for DS."

In addition, Aonuma spoke briefly about his career. The 40 year-old producer revealed that he had never touched a videogame before he began work at Nintendo as a designer some 17 years ago. "My first experience playing a game was Zelda: A Link to the Past. A great memory that still influences me to this date."

So what does the man who helped shape the Legend of Zelda series think of its faithful hero? "Link reminds me a lot of the little boy I just had: always happy, playful, and talented enough to get himself out of every situation."

Re: The New Zelda for Cube....update...

I agree that Nintendo should stop being so secretive. Most people aren't going to pay attention to an upcoming game - a Nintendo game - that they know nothing about. It might of worked if this was the late 80s/early 90s still, but these days there's just so much more available that people who aren't die hard Nintendo fans aren't really going to hold onto it. The big N should learn from Capcom and how they managed to flock attention - even from people without Gamecubes - towards RE4.

Quizzed for more specifics on the game, Aonuma held firm, but did say: "I can reveal one lone secret: it'll be very, very beautiful."

Grrrrr, it makes me so mad!

Re: The New Zelda for Cube....update...

Yeah. Stupid marketing strategy if they're trying to get attention. I've been leaning on the Final Fantasy and Sega games lately to keep my self from going crazy.

Re: The New Zelda for Cube....update...

It's going to be pretty big though. At my GameStop we've already got about 55 pre-orders for it, even with no official date announced. After E3 it's going to be huge, I bet, especially if they have a playable demo at E3 that the press can write about.

You guys already have that many pre-orders for this game? :o I need to go and reserve this.

Re: The New Zelda for Cube....update...

You guys take pre-orders that far in advance? You'd think there'd be like a 2 month max or something.

Re: The New Zelda for Cube....update...

We started taking Halo 2 pre-orders in early 2003 even though the game didn't come out until Nov. 9, 2004. There's never really been a limit to the start date. Even if a game isn't in our system for pre-orders, they can use a generic order form.

There's a lot of people that like to reserve it far in advance so they can keep paying it off little by little and have it paid off before the game comes out. :)
