One simple answer: Religion.

Actually, not that simple, but the majority of people who are for Prop 8 are hardcore Christians.

Mormon's too.

On May 15th, The California Supreme Court decided that marriage is a fundamental right and that same-sex couples were entitled to this right. If Prop 8 passes, it would be the first time discrimination has ever been written into the California Constitution.

Prop 8 hurts family values by preventing loving, committed same-sex couples from having the same recognition and legal protections as straight couples. Additionally, it hurts family values by openly promoting discrimination.

sadly same-sex marriage was banned here in Florida >_> darn this stupid state filled with old farts

It hurts many things. Discrimination is a word that should be wiped from the face of the earth. Regardless if it's sex, age, race, or creed.

The only thing that actually urks me, is people who use it to their advantages. Such as, "The Race Card". A female employee of a Lane Byrant clothing store, told me a story where the black female employee uses her race card to get her own way. Now I thought this only happened with racial issues, until today I found a gay man crying wolf at a Sears. Saying he was being discriminated because he was gay, when the truth is, he bought the item at a JCPenny's and not Sears. He was trying to swindle Sears because he didn't have the reciept, the girl found the tag inside the bag of clothing was from JCPenny's.

Now all I'm saying, is those who abuse those rights that people like Mai and Joy are fighting for, really pisses me off. Since it's giving gay couples and gay people everywhere a bad name.

Agreed, since I will always fight for gay rights as well. But the thing that pisses me off even more is the ultra conservatives who use God to discriminate. They tend to do more harm and are more vocal than the bad apples who try to take advantage of the system, in my opinion.

Well from what I understand, the most recent results have Yes on Prop 8 leading 54% to 46%. :-\

I'm seeing 53/47. We still have 50% of the state to go though, it can still be defeated. I just can't believe Los Angeles County is actually leaning towards yes.

Could not agree more with you on that! Gays deserve every single right straight people have. Period.

I have a bunch of friends who are watching the polls for me and keeping me updated. I haven't heard anything very recently, though. I guess I should be at least a little happy that it's at least close, but I'd really prefer to know one way or another.
