GTA 4

Re: GTA 4 A 10 out of 10!11

Which is downright stupid, I feel that reviewer was honest. So changing it to a 10 was idiotic.

Grand Theft Auto IV

Yooo. Has anyone purchased and played GTA IV yet? Is it worth buying now or should I just wait until its resold for a cheaper price?
:?

Re: GTA 4 A 10 out of 10!11

I think they obviously didn't change the review to a 10 and it was a glitch, like they said. The fact that there was no review accompanying the original score should be evidence enough for that.

Yeah, it is a very shoddy move. Not that had any respect for gamespot anyway. Those jerks.

Re: GTA 4 A 10 out of 10!11

Has it occurred to anyone that they might actually be telling the truth? They could have, internally had a large debate over whether or not the game got a 9.5 or a 10. The review was exceedingly positive. They called it the best Grand Theft Auto yet. They have given 9.6's to GTA III and GTA: San Andreas. If this is indeed the best GTA game yet, how could GTA IV originally have a 9.5 as its score? This leads me to believe that they were intending to give GTA IV a 10, and they were having trouble figuring out where it fit in on their less than a year old ratings scale so two scores were inputed.

Re: GTA 4 A 10 out of 10!11

Because Halo 3 was called the best Halo by reviewers and had the lowest average score. Same goes for Metroid Prime 3.

Where in these reviews does it say best in series?

Not trying to be mean, but has ever occurred to you that this reason could possibly be total and utter BS? Their reason just doesn't seem believable, and not because of what happened in the past with Kane and Lynch either. A glitch in their rating system seems very suspect.

If they were really having trouble giving it a ten, then just say so. Don't blame it on a bug in your website.

It very well could be (didn't come off as mean either). But, for once in my life, I'm just going to trust Gamespot, especially because I felt the review didn't reflect a 9.5, given how few flaws were pointed out.

First impressions:

REALISTIC DRIVING PHYSICS SUCK!

Seriously, it's not that bad, but it takes some getting used to. You definitely have to choose your vehicles much more carefully and mastering the gas/handbrake combo to power slide the corners is a must.

No more getting fat, hungry or tired. Hurray!

No more load times going in and out of buildings. Double hurray!!

The melee fighting options are a much welcomed improvement. You also have the option to spare or kill certain NPCs for different after effects. Basically, you get to decide how far you want to take things. ♪ Kick, punch, it's all in the mind! ♫

First time I crashed head first into a guard rail and flew out the windshield (and over a cliff into freeway traffic) I laughed my ___ off.

The new cell phone is not as annoying as I had feared it might be and is actually really handy.

The multiplayer is fun, and I usually hate online multiplayer. Cars, guns, innocent bystanders, huge areas, lots of game options besides the usual boring deathmatching (and I have to admit that even the DM is kinda fun.)

Spending time socializing with NPCs earns favors from them, like having your cousin send free taxis anytime/anywhere you call. Never thought I'd enjoy taking a date bowling, especially in a GTA game. :lol Darts is way too easy, though.

Lots of little touches of realism, like watching motorists toss litter out the windows or getting your hat knocked off.

Very few power ups. I'm not sure if they're just well hidden or what but I have yet to find a single weapon or body armor pick-up (in single player) and very few health ones. Fortunately there are hot dog stands and restaurants everywhere to heal, but saving at the safe house doesn't restore HP. WTH?

Also, not a lot of money lying around. You can even kill a vendor and get nothing. Double WTH?

When I finally found a gun shop there was only one gun available at first, the other dozen were locked. "Check back later!" I can't even find a hardware store, so the only weapons I have so far have been earned in missions.

So far, no properties to buy. Maybe that'll come later as more missions open things up.

Overall, they seem to be striving for more realism, but there are some odd, illogical moments. Like when I was taking my date home and got into a police chase. She was woo-hooing and having fun one moment, then a few seconds later says, "No offense, but I'm getting really bored. Please take me home." Huh?

I'm still very early in the game, though, and there's a lot going on here, so this is far from being a final judgement. Looking forward to much, much more to come.

I'm really liking this game. Playing it too much :p

Think i have played around 17 hours and only 40% through. Love the graphics and pretty much everything about the game.
I have only ever completed one other gta which was san andreas so it will be good if i can complete this one.

Reviewers is a plural word.

But we're talking about Gamespot's review specifically. Read a few posts back.
Yes, but they're no different than any other review site, so I think it's just as easy for them to give a lower score to a better game in the series just like others have.

that's why i don't think GTAIV deserves a 10.... many other sites took points from other games becuase they are sequels with the same formula, but why didn't they take out those points from GTAIV?

But Gamespot hasn't. There is no industry wide standard for reviews, but if Gamespot's standards clearly show that they don't contradict themselves by calling a game best in series, then giving the game a lower score than half the games in the series.

Re: GTA 4 A 10 out of 10!11

I was expecting its rankings to go down now that more reviews are pouring in, but it's still the number 1 and 2 spots on gamerankings.com.
