I know this a gaming forum but this General Discussion Category is perfect spot for this topic.I've watched a lot of shows that focus on drug addiction especially in teenagers,and for some reason they hardly ever talk about one of the most lethal over the counter drugs called "Gravol" or in America "Dramamine" the brand names for "Dimenhydrinate".
Don't get me wrong,they have done some discussion on the topic but they feel they have bigger fish to fry,and yes,"Meth,Heroin,Crack,Acid,Pain Killers,and to a lesser extent Cough Medication because of "DMX".And they are serious dangers in their own right,but these people are making a huge mistake by underestimating the true evil of "Dimenhydrinate" abuse.This is the voice of experience talking.I'm not proud of it,but up until 10 or 11 years ago,I abused this drug at the rate of 30 to 45 every night ,because at that level this drug will produce a heightened feeling of euphoria(Feeling High).I ingested these amount for 2 reasons,1. because the high was a great feeling.2. I had to because the body builds a tolerance to the drug quite rapidly requiring more and more to produce the desired effect.
I have written letters to the government and the various companies that make this drug,sure enough,all I got in response was form letters basically telling me that they are not responsible for the people who take this drug properly,but true to form,they sent a response with obviously insincere concern about the people who are hooked on it.I got news for you,the government and the companies make this stuff aren't your friends,they don't care about so and so who lives nest door to you in some city somewhere,they thirst for the money,nothing else.
And yes,it's not fair to the people who use it properly for motion sickness,and nobody forces people to walk into a pharmacy and buy it,but it's a horrible drug that should be taken lightly.It's very cheap to buy and in a lot of places you do have to be 18 to buy in Canadian stores,I'm not sure about the US.But it hardly matters because you can always find someone who is of legal age to buy it for you,just like alcohol.
In medical studies the most common side effects of abusing this drug are extreme dizziness,mood swings,sexual dysfunction,mild euphoria,excitability(especially in children),memory lapse,urine retention.At the dosage level I was taking is suffered serious rapid heartbeat,confusion,hallucinations,nosebleeds,not being able to urinate at all,which required several visits to the ER.Vomiting,extreme aggression,and great difficulty in breathing.
In closing,I wrote this to warn curious people who have never tried but who have friends that suggested it for abusive purposes,and people who are currently abusing it and making them think it's just because it's not illegal to have.I'm not a doctor,everything I know is from experience and study,and when my doctor found out how long this abuse of this drug and the extreme overdose I was taking on a daily basis,he looked at me and said:Jason I'm surprised you are not dead.I'll ya they really hit home to me,because I've never seen him so angry.Know this,I f you know someone who is suffering from this horrible addiction,get them off it ANYWAY YOU CAN!! if you don't,you will regret it deeply,I promise you.I forgot to mention,because of all the dimenhydrinate I abused over the years,because of the effect of the high doses I took over the years,it permanently damaged some of my inner ear,I cannot ride a bike anymore because of the damage I did,my balance is off some.On top of that,my pupils of my eyes are permanently dilated,some people who don't know about my addiction think I'm on something all the time,and that sucks.
