How's your summer going?

Actually, more THQ, but mainly they moved my department out there and I was offered to keep my job and they offered a complete relocation package. One of my main reasons to go was because I felt it was time to leave for a bit and experience something different. Lived in L.A. all my life. Unfortunately it's happening during our busiest time of the year but once all the work settles it should be cool. Just need to adjust to 115+ degree weather. :(

That sounds awesome! I know moving's not fun, and there certainly are cons to consider in addition to the pros, but that sounds like a good opportunity. You also seem to have a good attitude about it, so it should be a positive experience.

It's going okay. I don't ever do anything special. I'm kind of stuck within the one wall of our privacy fence, and the two other walls of chain-link fence most of the summer. :P

I do plan on going to the zoo sometime soon, as well as the fair. And this year I have something in mind which I've always wanted to do: See a football game. (One of Alabama's, of course) Gonna pick one out of our 12 games…that should be hard. :(
If I was just a little closer to Tuscaloosa it would be easier to make a trip every now and then, but no, I have to live way down at the southern-most part of the state. :P

Anyway. ^^

So I have been struggling with mental illness, borderline personality disorder to be exact, and haven't had much interest in anything outside of suicidal ideation and risk taking. After a failed suicide attempt and a 911 call, I was held overnight in the psych ward of the local hospital while policemen guarded me. Thus I haven't really been buying any toys, but we did finally get an Xbox 360 and a lot of fun games.

My family and I still have hard times, my treatment is ongoing, but I am currently on anti-psychotics, mood stabilizers, and benzodiazapine class sedatives. In addition to a medical marijuana card that allows me to legally possesses up to 8 ounces in CA, or 11 plants.

So that about sums up how my summer has been. That and it is hot, really, really hot.

My suggestion, quit smoking pot. It's not going to do your mental illness any good. And I am speaking from experience.

It is far better than being addicted to benzodiazapine class drugs, which I have been for the past 8 months. It also doesn't damage CNS receptors in your brain and leave you disabled. Or kill you when you stop taking it. Yeah, I like my pot better, trying to kick the benzos.

Well I can only wish you the best of luck kicking that addiction! I'd have never gotten better if I had continued to smoke pot, but I see you are in a unique situation.

With a background working in psych, many patients who self-medicated had more hallucinations and delusions. THC affects neurotransmitters and changes thought patterns. After working in both psychiatric medicine, and now in clinical laboratory, I am surprised a doctor would grant a card for anything other than terminal cancer.

The official diagnosis it was granted for, was Generalized Anxiety Disorder and Major Depressive Disorder.

My psychologist didn't write the RX, my PCP did. My psychiatrist however does frown upon it, but then he isn't the one having suicidal ideation either.

While cannabis has been correlated with the development of various mental disorders in multiple studies, these studies differ widely as to whether cannabis use is the cause of the mental problems, whether the mental problems encourage cannabis use, or whether both the cannabis use and the mental problems are the effects of some other cause. Still other studies even encourage the use of cannabis in treating schizophrenia.

Studies aside, the case histories I have personally reviewed while working with patients followed a pattern. The pattern that I observed was that a person with precursers to scizophrenia and schizoaffective disorder often had early psychotic breaks triggered by THC.

In other words, THC does not necessarily cause psychosis, but instead triggers it in those with underlying causes.

In cases with bipolar disorder, anxiexty, or major depressive disorder, THC had a tendency to compound and increase symptoms in patients.

Those are the situations that I observed while working in an acute psychiatric unit over the course of thirteen months, caring for hundreds of patients.

I am in the process of buying a house with my new husband and my kids r here for the summer. today it is extremely hot and humid. I guess I would say my summer so far is stressful but good too. I have my husband and kids but looking for houses, moving, and growing a new marriage all are kinda stressful and require lots of work patience and faith

as to what x2 said earlier, i totally agree. Interacting with him before and after he quit smoking pot was majorly different. He gained a lot by quitting that. I also know of two other people too, who self medicated with pot and went downhill instead of up...like being hooked into a slow downward spiral.
