I'm just curious on what everyone thinks about the boards. I know it's been a little slow lately. I would like to guage what everyone thinks about the boards.

Why do you think we have a lower post count right now? What do you think it would take for our post count to be higher... but also retain a good quality of posts? Do you still enjoy the forums?

I've been thinking about this lately and looking into possible reasons why our members have been posting less. I understand life gets busy (school and all), and sometimes people just need a change of pace.

I appreciate your time.

I think people are just busy for the most part. Also might because the industry itself is just kind of slow right now. Bet ya come time for next gen the boards will be hopping like crazy again.

it really is slow.... i was checking the game of the year awards and pretty much all the games in there well... i either didn't play them or voted L4D2 just because of the demo.... idk if is because i went with cult classics this year or that the gaming industry was indeed slow for the most part

I'm hesitant to share my views for fear of causing friction between myself and other members.I'm not going to make any friends with this opinion, but here it goes.I love this forum. The layout is great,it's not difficult to get used to.I like the fact that there is a good selection of avatars, although it wouldn't hurt to add or replace some of the choices just to keep things fresh.Perhaps being able to upload an avatar that you personally feel comfortable with.In one other forum,I chose an image of Mike Tyson as my avatar.

As far as my number of posts,I've been asked to cool it.At first,it bothered me,but after listening to some suggestions,I'm making an effort to post less, even though I'd like to post more. It's not fair to the other members who want to post some of their threads but are bumped down to previous pages that not as many members bother to look at,because I want to post 3 or 4 threads a day.I'm glad it's was brought to my attention. It's only fair, and everyone has been patient with me in that respect. For that I am grateful.

One thing that concerns me is "Newbies".I understand there is a thread for suggestions on how to get more members to join and things of that nature. It's a great thing that this forum is at a smaller number than most, making it like a little family. It's usually the same members that have been here a while that are responsible for the every day posts and replies, which is comforting. You get to know each other better, but to "Newbies" it can be intimidating.

When I first joined, and saw pretty much every day were basically the same members with insanely high post counts posting and replying,I was afraid to make posts for fear of being ignored or left out of the conversation entirely. That's why maybe a lot of "Newbies" don't post or stay in the forum.I do my best to welcome new members and make them feel comfortable,in hopes that they will stay. The thread about what we can do to bring new members into the "Family"/"Forum" is nice, but sometimes I'm not so sure that some members who have been here for years really want any new members.

I understand that the posts in the "Fun&Games" section do not count towards your post total due to abuse, but I think they should. If a mod or you BV notice members obviously abusing it to pump up post counts, than surely there must be a way to deal with that. There's plenty of mods in the forum that could monitor the above mentioned category to keep it in check, especially since we know each other so well.Grindspine had a good idea about devoting a slot where you can post your images of game related products, such as action figures and such.

Other than that,I think this forum is great.Especially those little "New" icons that appear when a new response is made to any given thread. In closing,I want to touch upon something. For any members that have a problem with me being a member, please don't talk about behind my back by way of pm's.pm me and let me know what problem you have with me.If I've overstayed my welcome let me know.and I will dismiss myself from the forum.

Sincerely,
Kaz

I have no idea about others, but I am just so busy with life these days. And to play the games that I want, some sacrifices must be made. That usually means that I have to make a decision. So me being on the forum gets pushed aside because I'm playing games in that time slot. And right now the Holiday Season is heating up. So I am going to be involved by preparing to celebrate and then celebrating. I might do more retro marathons. I think that I will be planning some more of those, it tends to be a very enjoyable experience. :D And really the retro gaming area that interest me are always slow. :lol

Yeah, pretty much that. Also, for the past few months I've been working on stuff relating to my moving to Georgia, so I haven't had a lot of free time.

@ Kaz - I don't think making posts count in the F&G forum would be beneficial. Making it so that posts don't count in F&G is supposed to encourage people to post in forums where it does count, like the video game sections, because, as you know, this is a video game forum.

@ BV - A lot of it for me is that people are playing games that I don't have. Like Left 4 Dead. Also, the PS3 is a bigger system for our members it seems, and I don't have one yet. So sometimes it's hard to join conversations because I have no real input to give.

Perhaps after Christmas I'll have both, and be able to contribute more. :lol

Yeah, I will have to say, I think we're making other members feel "Left 4 Dead" when it comes to our topics about PS3 and L4D sadly...There has to be a way to fix this..

oi I feel the same XD. I wished I had my OWN ps3 so I could comment a lot more about PS3 games

Personally, my life has been hell as of late. Negotiations broke down with myself and my mortgage company, so January first I am giving the keys back. So that means my house is full of boxes, and I currently have little desire to partake in any of my hobbies. I also almost went down to zero cars. My wife's van is still being worked on. Oddly enough I now have to reinstall the suspension so I can trailer it out of here. My car lost the alternator last week, so it spent four days in a town 22 miles away. Yesterday I drove out to install the alternator so I could drive it home. During that time, the front fuel pump quit in my truck, and stranded my wife at a Walmart 10 miles away at 11:00 at night. With my neighbor's help, and breaking the law, I managed to get my truck home while my 14 year old neighbor drove his dad's truck home. In short, I cannot do anything right now except lurk around a few minute here and there. Both time and my sanity are somewhat lacking.

As for everyone else, the only thing the site doesn't really have anymore is the store. It's unique to visit, buy and then hang out with other enthusiasts. I really think that if the store is gone, we need to fill the void. If well regulated, a "swap meet" of sorts would probably drive up visits. I know I have games that I could sell. The upside would also be that we have a better atmosphere than ebay. For starters, we could require a minimum post count to access this "store" so we could weed out the scams. Just a thought...

Other than that, there could be a million excuses as to why the traffic is slowing down. W can start by offering something that makes this site more unique than the rest...

I think the forums are pretty much alright. Ive just been busy with my final semester of college and applying to various programs, playing games more than actually posting about videogames, and just being worked to death with homework.

Most of the issues that Ive had with the forums have been corrected, in terms of members who I initially didnt get along with are either A) gone, or B) have either helped me changed or are just nicer now. I do know that sometimes Im a bit to hasty or harsh when news threads are posted and that I lack the initiative to post news as well, however, I can hopefully continue to work to change that.

I love how the "Quote" button works for me now though!

A suggestion is it possible to get facebook connect integration here?

I really love being here at this forum, but sometimes I'm not home because I'm either at work, reading some manga or Hannah Montana books, or visiting family somewhere else in the West Coast, so overall I'm too busy in life nowadays.

You've definitely changed a lot, Starry! I personally think you are a good member and I like having you around. But haha yea, for a while there I certainly did question your motives for being here! All is good now, though :)

This.

I come here every day, but don't post much because there's not enough interesting topics..but that's just because the game industry is at the slow point after the storm of awesome games.

Though like others, I'm very busy at work making payments on my house, and just getting everything together.

School, job, and girlfriend. That's all there is to it.

I mean, I still get on everyday and check around, but I'm just hard pressed to make posts these days...with Modern Warfare 2 feeling lonely in my 360, I must go play it. :)

I was watching television just now,and something popped up in my head.
I have visited A LOT of various forums with different themes like "Sports","Chess","Biblical",etc. For the most part, their layout is the same old solid color of various colors.

What I had in mind was,why not try using "Skins" to help give the forum layout a little pizazz? You could change the designs maybe bi-weekly or monthly.I use "Skins" with all kinds of themes with my "Firefox".

I can tell ya this,it would separate this forum from all the others I've visited.

Godspeed.
Kaz

Kaz, I think if you go to the profile section on here you can change it to your liking. Though on the topic of sports, religion, and the like...

I don't think we should have any of those threads here. If so, please just use the "Post it" thread. Religious threads get us nowhere, and have led to some very heated arguments, not debates. I miss coming here to talk about video games.
