SAN ANDREAS

i thought ff 7 was far from childesh... if you really paid attention to the story line while you were playing, you could see that there were many things going on at once... and areas or tifa i cant remember witch one got killed,, but anyways when sepheroth killed her, it was horrible man!

Yeah I think the story more than made FF 7 an adult game. Sure it looks "cutesy" as you call it, but as I got deeper into the game it felt like it was dealing with more of an adult theme. I personally like that style. FF 8 looked really good, but I couldnt get into the story as much as FF7 and that means a lot more to me than graphical style, especially on an rpg.

me too. i barely got through with the first disc on 8 and quite.. thats how bad i disliked the game.. maybe because 7 was so good my head was boosted up for 8 and flop :'( i was expecting just a little more from it

.... they're both fine and good games. i liked both, played both, beat them numerous times. i think ffVII is better, but FFVIII is the horror many people made it out to be. saying it was the change from "manga/anime with "cute" characters" is not quite right. many people disliked it because ffVII was the first major ff they played. many people dislike change greatly and seven and eight were very much so in the way magic was, the SeeD type thing with money, limits, etc. i thought it was flawed with the SeeD ranking system being able to get S rank in the beginning, the weapon system where you enhanced them through collection of items was annoying, and drawing the magic. it was annoying b/c beginners don't necessarily think right and they permanently miss a summon b/c they'll forget to draw it out. and then drawing a hundred of a spell, yikes, but i did like equipping htem to enhance defense and weapons with that ability. it was just too much of a change from 7 to 8 and people really loved 7 so they had no choice but to go against it harshly. if you were a smart player though and just always went into battle with squall in critical and abused the limit break, i think it's called renzokuken, you could fly through pretty easily. seven was just a work of art. the only thing people can do is say, 'wow, how horrible graphics, look at the box hands, etc' but the materia system was great, story was awesome, haven't had that cool of a bad guy (sephiroth) since, if not ever (i was partial to kefka, the whole poison the castle thing and kicking the emperor's corpse was comical)), the gold saucer, the Weapons (meaning giant mech things), etc made the game brilliant and a classic

both playable and good, just a matter of perspective, and the ffVIII perspective, suffice to say, is in the minority by a great deal

FF7 (can we please dith the letter numbers? Thanks) is a great game, but not the best FF game. FFX-2 are my favourite, with FFX a close second. Maybe I should mention FFX-2 and FF7 are the only FF games I ever bothered completing, and I beat FF7 using a cheat. A great game, but not nearly the best FF. On the other hand, ever tried Star Ocean 3? It's by far the best FF-ish game I have ever played - when it occasionally works. You play a great game for thirty minutes (if you're lucky), then it crashes. Thirty minutes more, and it crashes. Now keep going for sixty hours, and you have yourself a problem.

To me the best is FF 7. Because all that is is an opinion. There is no definitive best. It differs from person to person. And we have to use the numbers or else how do we know which FF you're talking about. Its really not that hard.

But you just said you bought and played FF7 and 8, but never tried any game after that? Then how come you know they are worse than FF7 if you haven't actually played them? ;) 'sides, FFX are out on platinum by now, and FF9 is on PS1. They are not expensive.

Because Ive played more than one. And between those two FF 7 is the best. Im not really an RPG person so I dont have too many. I own Xenogears for PS1, which I really want to play and actually try to beat it, and the original wild arms. Im not buying any games at the moment but when I do start buying again ill try to get FF X, and probably FF anthology.

Ah, yes. There's the problem. You are not a RPG person, and I live for those games. 8) You want a great RPG for beginners, I want a great RPG for experienced gamers. You want to pick it up and play, I want to spend two hours making a character.

ahhhh, omg nightwolf. i cant belive we got something in common. i too love spending i dont care how long as long as it is a few hours on my charachters and getting to know them etc. .. another reason that i love ff's is because i can most always get 40 hours out of their games..

Thats not what I want. Just cuz im not an RPG person doesnt mean that I want something easy. Why would I want an RPG for beginners? If Im going to buy and play an RPG I want one that has a great story that I can get into, with all the sidequests and everything.

I actually do have some gripes about San Andreas that keep me from playing this game. One of the reasons is because I never liked how you cant have all the weapons at one time. I want all my the weapons at my disposal. I like to blow stuff up. Another is the fact that its so big that there is a lot of filler buildings and terrain. The idea of having a vast state is nice. But in a video game I dont think it works right. Kind of like in Wind Waker when you had to travel so much ocean just to get where you are going. I believe that if they were going to have all that space they should have utilized it better.

Perhaps you should try mercenaries. For starters, you only have two weapons and two types of grenades. (stun grenades and grenades that blow stuff up). This means you can't have a machinegun, sniper rifle and a rocket launcher at once, and I usually switch between three different rocket launchers (normal, anti-air and anti-tank.) I know only two weapons can seem strange, but it works. For one, you can take the weapons of the enemies. (even highkack cars, tanks, helicopters...) Second, you have a nice "I want this!" functiion. As in an online store you can use to order pretty much anything from civilian cars to "the economical version of a nuclear bomb" and have it delivered to you no matter where you are. (with the exception of Ace card missions where you can't buy helicopters).

As for lots of open space, this doesn't bother me as long as there is something to do there. Other cars, soldiers fighting enemy soldiers, transport helicopters in the sky, supper fighters going on bombing missions, stuff like this make the world feel more alive. It's actually a lot better than GTA ever was when it comes to a "living" world. And while it might sound a lot like GTA, it's much better. Kinda like what GTA should have been all along. ;)

Wow. I cant believe its taken this long for me to agree with you Nightwolf. :lol But yes you essentially said what I have been feeling. Lots of space is no good to me unless there is something interesting there. I know that in the real world there is a lot of stuff that isnt interesting, but im paying to be entertained not to be sold reality. If I wanted reality I will go outside and do something. And when I get a chance I will play mercenaries.

You won't regret it. It should be enought to say I spend 5 (five!) hours non-stop on the last mission before I used a cheat to beat it. That's how great the game is.

bad to get back to ff, but all ff's are for beginners unless you go straight through.
people always level at some point which makes the games irrevocably easy.

Yeah they are not extremely hard or anything but I dont think they are beginners RPG's. I do think they sacrifice some of the gameplay for story though, so it kind of balance's out for me. I enjoy the story lines.

Omg, I dont mean to interrupt this but I finally finished GTA:SA and want a crappy ending it had! All of the killing, stealth, robbing old ladies, breaking into houses, etc and all I get is a 2 minute ending! The last sentence he says is just great, Im not going to repeat it to spoil other people that hasn't beaten the game. *breaks his PS2*
