What'd they rename it for?! :(

Anyway, I actually got to play the Japanese version of this game. It's good, I just hope they don't mess it up with the translation...

no one actually knows why they renamed the game but as long as the gameplay keeps being the same as the japanese one i'll be ok XD

Well thanks to the wonders of Nintendo Power, I have found out some more info on this game, which I will now post. :D

Because it's so heavily steeped in contemporary Japanese culture, we were concerned that It's a Wonderful World--the latest effort from Kingdom Hearts mastermind Tetsuya Nomura--might not make it to these shores. And that would have been a real shame; this boldly creative action-RPG is unlike anything else on DS. Fortunately, Square Enix has done the right thing and announced a spring release for the game, along with a new title: The World Ends with You.

Set in the trendy Tokyo district of Shibuya, The World Ends with You stars a young boy named Neku who receives a mysterious text message informing him that he'll cease to exist in seven days unless he participates in a deadly competition. Hoping to avoid that grim fate, Neku teams with a young girl who receives a similar message, and during battle, you're tasked with controlling both characters at once. Neku occupies the bottom screen, unleashing various psychic attacks and you slash and tap at enemies with the stylus. At the same time, you also have to input specific command strings using the Control Pad and face buttons to execute his partner's attacks on the top screen.

In addition to serving as producer, Nomura provided the character designs for the game, and the graffiti-inspired urban aesthetic stands out from the kind of fantasy fare we usually see from Square Enix (as does the techno-infused soundtrack). We've got high hopes for this one, so expect much more in the months to come.

yeah it reminds me of certain dreamcast game that name i can't remember right now, but anyway the game looks awesome

They've announced a release date for this game.

Square Enix announced today that The World Ends With You, an original role-playing game for the Nintendo DS, will ship in North America on April 22nd. The announcement clarifies the spring release target issued for the game in December.

This will probably be my game for April.

nintendo power gave this game a 9.0 and will be released april 22nd *-*.

they loved the innovation with this game's battle system and gameplay features

bought this game today , i absolutlely love it... one of the most innovative, unique and overwhelming of this generation and not just DS standarts but RPG standarts of this generation.... you gotta play to belive because i'm not lying.....though i recommend that if you play it give it some time because the learning curve is high XD but after you get it you'll love what you play

I love the music in the game though i bought it release week and have still yet to unwrap it. I am dying to play it nonetheless. How long is it?

that depends of how many battles you like to play XD i'm on my 26th hour and only in the last quarter of the game, also there is a unique new game + option that lets you replay any chapter of the game with a few changes so you are able to get every item and train every pin.

and this are some good and bad things of the game

cool features
-no random battles, you choose when to fight
-each support character has an unique card combo game
-you can use mingle with other DS (just picking up their signal, another "the world ends with you" is not needed) so you can get experience points and money
- whe you turn the game off the game still gives you experience points even though you are not playing (so you do your homework and come back ready to battle)
- you can sacrifice the levels you win or your HP bar to make the game harder and get more pin drops/money, you can do this on the fly, so this is a game for everyone you can make it harder or easier at any time (also you can make the second character automatic so it makes it way easier for some)
-there's a food feature, where you give food to your characters and they take time to digest it, also there's a limit of how many bites (how much food) you can eat in a day
-pins level up like materia does in FFgames and each pin has a different ability used with the touch screen or even the microphone, there's over 300 different pins and you can also trade them with other people
-the game features an exact map from the shibuya district of tokyo, so if you ever wanna go ther you can use this as your guide XD
-the soundtrack of this games is mostly voiced, from japanese and english songs, as you might expect they are very awesome techno songs, and if you ever liked anime music you are going to like this
-also you get a boost of stats if you use different combination of clothes, in different areas (for example in some areas summer clothing is more popular so summer clothes give you a bigget boost in those areas) but you always have to keep your clothes with style

bad stuff
- only one save file
- a medium to high learning curve

and there's some stuff i didn't know until i played the game, that are actually cool
1. there is some kind of multiplayer, a minigame callled tin pin, where you but pins fight each other, each pin has a number of set abilities to use in this minigame and the point is to throw the other pin out of the set stage.
2. every piece of clothes have a certain ability but you won't know what it is until the store clerk tells you, however you must develop a friendly relationship with the clerk in orther for them to tell you these abilities and to sell you more clothes, however there are lots of clerks so you gotta buy lots of stuff.
3. i don't know if i said it already but when you turn the game off and then comeback later on the game gives you PP (pin points to level up your pins) by the time you were away until a week (wich means you get PP until the 7th day after that you don't get anymore) it's cool because its like a message saying "do your homework and when you comeback you'll be stronger"
4. the game is longer than i thought.....waaayy longer

Oh snaps than that means I can not wait to play it now. I thought the soundtrack was balling but now I can look forward to lenghty gameplay and an interesting battle system. Games and their battle systems have always thrilled me, so this will definitely be something that I am looking forward to. Gosh I dont even know why Im saying this cause Im looking right at the game box but Im yet to decided when I want to play it. Hopefully I will start next week once I finish Yu-Gi-Oh.

One question, you get to play the game as many characters?! That is, each character has their own storyline?

well you get to play with 3 different characters each one with their own system, however its not like their own storyline is just that each character has a chapter in the whole story >_> saying anything else would be spoilers

I guess that does make sense then. I will also have to make sure I find a good FAQ on Gamefaqs to follow, the game sounds madly difficult.
