The World Ends with You

Oh I get It. lol. Did you get the sticker that let you get expeirence while you were gone before you started it over?

you only get that once you beat the game i believe

I didn't beat it, and I got it in like the middle of the game. :-\

oh you mean sleep points? well you don't get to keep those points if you start the game over as in..... you know erasing your file to start again

I enjoyed TWEWY, the first time... then found it had zero replay value when I tried to start a new game. It was like watching a Shyamalan film twice in a row... just didn't have the same impact or sense of suspense. Traded it in for $20, which went toward Metal Slug 7... a game I'm still playing. :p

I got this game, but I've only played about 15 minutes of it. Seems really cool so far and the music is good. The combat looks like a lot of fun once you're good at it.

I never did get "good" at the combat. :lol Only in one of the final battles did I even attempt to control the top screen too.

Maybe if they gave it alternate story paths or multiple endings, I would have kept it. Chrono Trigger has spoiled me when it comes to actually ROLEPLAYING in a roleplaying game.

there is a secret ending that players cab obtain after doing different missions on the chapters of the game.... each time the player beats certain missions they obtain a secret report that gives hidden info about the storyline....and there is even more stuff to do like collecting and mastering pins (if interested)

how is TWEWY not roleplaying? sure the story follows a linear path but the way the game is played is 100% up to the player... like an actual ROLEPLAYING game.

By that logic, Devil May Cry is a roleplaying game.

eh....no.... allow me to elaborate, while Devil May cry does have small RPG elements, it is not considered an RPG....it just doesn't give the player that much freedom as an RPG game would (plus there is no actual leveling up)

first of all let me give you some points of why i believe the world ends with you has roleplaying elements.

TWEWY lets you change your own level to increase drop rates (thing that can rarely be altered in other RPGS)
TWEWY lets you increase the stats of your party whenever and however you want to... you don't need to level up either (you just need food)
TWEWY has 300+ attacks that can be leveled up, upgraded and mastered, you can also create the best combat strategy that fits you from all this options
TWEWY lets you fight random monsters whenever you want to
TWEWY lets you play at whatever skill level you wish to play at any given time

what i am trying to say is that The world ends with you can be considered actual roleplaying because you do get many options to accommodate your strategy, the way you play and stuff like that, chrono trigger gives you almost total control in the development of the storyline (which is fine is still a great RPG) but it just doesn't give you that many options to develop your characters.... all in all they are both roleplaying and they both have their own reasons to replay/keep playing the game

by this logic i can also say that indigo prophecy is a roleplaying game.. but that is not true obviously.

We'll just have to agree to disagree... at this point, I have a hard time seeing ANY Japanese-made "RPGs" as actual roleplaying games because they're all too painfully linear. Leveling up attacks, changing the difficulty level, upgrading your stats... how does that get you a different ending, again...? How is it any more "roleplaying" than OTHER games with the same mild RPG-esque elements?

indeed i see that you only believe that an RPG must have different endings in order to be true "roleplaying" to me is not just that....

and like i have said... in real roleplaying games the player also has to develop their character as they see fit... that is what i mean...

Which is pretty much why I'm starting to get more and more into western RPG's and growing out of JRPGs... I want a roleplaying experience, not an entirely foreordained linear one. If I wanted something foreordained and linear, I'd just play Contra.

and that's fine, but don't you think it's a little harsh to compare all JRPGs to something like contra? i mean is not like JRPGs are THAT linear (specially not last year's TWEWY, persona 4 and Valkyria chronicles)... but you don't seem to agree in the slightest with my point of view so is a lost cause... i really understand where are you coming from but i don't agree with the fact that not having different endings can actually affect the overall quality of the game, it is not the only factor to create replay value... i don't mind if they have different endings, i like it but i guess what i care about is the gameplay and the story and since i consider TWEWY my DS game of the year i do consider that it has both qualities.

Wow, this is one of those rare times where someone makes a post that I don't find some way to disagree with. Finally, someone remembers what roleplaying games are supposed to be about. :D

Fan of Morrowind by chance? For me, it's one of the greatest western RPG's I've ever played.
