even thou that FFX is a good game but VII is a masterpiece of gaming

final fantasy 7 is perfect and i will tell you why

the graphics at the time where stealer and the CG's where fantastic. even thou the graphics in the later final fantasy's where improved at the time it was the best there ever was

the music was amazing it set the mood and won a few awards for the amazing score. some highlites where reproduced in a large orchestra

the story even thou complex was amazingly crafted. deep and complex and amazing char development. you liked the chars you wanted to play them. the game was 70 hours it was long. but when you finished it you felt a real sense of accomplishment

gameplay was also perfect the depth of combat and charicar customisation is amazing. the controls is what you would expect from any RPG.

it is the king of RPG's simply put there are allot close to that convent title but FF7 i amazing in every way it changed the why you thought of RPG's and what they can do.

can you please explain why it was overrated?

here is a little clip from IGN's greatest games of all time

"Cloud and his boys have been around for eight years and they're still some of the most popular characters in gaming. Him, his giant sword, and his classic RPG heightened the profile of an entire genre of gaming. FFVII gave turn-based gameplay new meaning by gluing together plot points with some of the most cutting-edge CG cutscenes around. The end result was a compelling experience that rocked our world. It's undeniable that this one game pushed boundaries that were never even thought of in that time. Even today, FFVII still holds the imaginations of gamers all over the world."

i think that because instead of square focusing on making a final fantasy true to its roots they made one that aimed for mass appeal instead

I disagree. First of all, what did you think of the game? Was it good? And by that I mean dont compare it to other FF's. By itself is it a good game? Also, It did stay true to its roots. It's still fantasy and still had a great story in my opinion. I know what you mean about staying true to its roots but in reality there arent really roots since each game is a different game. I dont think they went for mass appeal, especially back then when the PS1 was still not as popular as we think of it today. Square took a chance on a system that didnt have a reputation yet and still remained to prove itself. I just think that Square was really ambitious and wanted to make this grand game, and in my opinion they succeeded. Now as far as it being the best one, I really cant say since I havent played them all. But it is by far my favorite and I feel that it deserves all the praises it gets.

that is a blatant lie

FF7 was never appealing for the mass market

it was deep with a complex story and a massive play time. the battle system never reflected "dumbing" down as games that try to capture everyone tend to do

FF7 in now way would appeal to everyone. it was never intended to do so

Square never needs to do that there games are going to sell like hotcakes no matter what they do.

obviously we don't know weather you even played the game with a statement like that

Alright, calm down FF7master. First it is not a "lie" because its an opinion. Its not a fact that they did it for mass appeal. Dont start bashing them just because of that. Its their opinion, now let them back it up. Give them a chance.

yea... i know

it just when ppl say things like that i makes me wonder if they have even played the game.

and if they haven't they cannot really claim witch one it better

Yeah well let them have their opinion. If you disagree with them fine but dont start assumings things based on a single post. We are here to discuss and have a nice community of fellow gamers. I understand arguments will happen, but remember we are all here to have fun and discuss games.

yes you are right about that

but you cant blame someone for getting a little mad for a statement like that.

i wasn't trying to start an argument i was just simply calling him out on that. it did sound harsh but it was the truth pure and simple

I wont blame. I know you have a passion for FF VII. But its actually its not the truth as you assumed that they never played the game. You could've simply asked if they ever played the game. But enough of this. Lets all just go back to our normal programming and have fun again.

i was obsessed with the game and finished it 3 times but looking back at it... its just very lifeless as opposed to 6 :-\ i thought the battle system was lacking depth although it was fun because it was easy to master. the best battle system in any final fantasy i think is 10 because swapping party members adds alot of depth along with their respective abilities. 7 and 8 were all about junctioning things and in both games its easy to find combos that make the game way too easy ::) i find the best story to be in 6 because it focuses on about 16 characters and their interactions instead of one central character. also the characters in 6 are very deep and nonstereotypical while the newer final fantasies (namely 10) focus on stereotypical teenagers...

but anyway ive been a final fantasy fan since final fantasy for nes and in my experienced opinion 6 is the peak of the series because it was developed with great depth and continuity and challenge in every aspect. when final fantasy 7 came out i was excited but as time went on i realised that square is trying harder and harder to get a larger fanbase instead of keeping with the same consistancy of depth and quality in their games.

a large contributer to my opinion is the fact that square now has about 3 final fantasy 7 spinoffs in developement. this illustrates their recent lack of innovation to create indepth games and aclination in appealing to more gamers. another fact is that after 7 came out; final fantasy fans became exponentially populated. now its rare to meet someone who was a fan before 7 came out. also look at the beginning of final fantasy 7 in midgar. you have barret (with his swearing) and tifa (with her sex appeal)... then look at the latter parts of the game. to me the beginning of it was created to lure people who wouldnt normally play rpgs to play it. any final fantasy before 7 never once used sex appeal or swearing...

anyway... i am looking forward to 12 alot because it looks rather intruiging in that the artists for vagrant story and final fantasy tactics worked on it. it looks more classic medieval than recent final fantasies. i hope it steers the series back to its roots! ::D

I have to disagree again. The reason is because nobody knew how big the PS1 was going to be and how popular FF VII was going to be also. They took a chance on a system that was barely 2 1/2 years old. Now if this was still done on Nintendo's system, I might agree with you, but seriously Square took a big risk developing on the PS1. Yes there was swearing in the game but it gives it a mature feel rather than other games at the time that didnt include swearing. It wasnt over done. Square's risk payed off since the PS1 became a huge hit and one of the reasons why so many people know about it. I dont get how people can say that it was done for mass appeal the second something becomes popular, and thats just in general. Like if the person was there when they started developing it. Although I will agree that NOW they are milking it as much as they can but back when it was first released nobody could predict the success of it.

wow... lifeless get real.

combos? they never made the game easyer they where just attacks. omislash was maybe powerfull by agents a boss it did little damage.

and why are you bagging on tifa and barret? you could hardly see tifas body so that just makes no since

think about it the FF games have basically stayed similar but FF7 was just better technology and the story and music was above all.

square would never i reapeat NEVER sacrifice its regular fan base for the mass appeal. and they never will.

the thing about the spinoffs is that they appeal to FF fans. a very few ppl who disliked FF7 will ever give a spin off a chance

their RPG's haven't changed from the vary first with FF1 to FFX.

Wow. Such passion over a game. I think I should get off my tail and buy FF7 if everyone says it's this good.
I didn't vote because I only have 1 and 10. I rarely if ever play 1, and I play 10 every chance I get. I wouldn't say I am a huge fan of the FF series. So far they seem to be great games.
